Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the most beloved titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Under this title, Mary is honoured as the Patroness, Mother, and Sister of the Carmelite Family. Her connection to Carmel goes back to Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, where the first Carmelites, inspired by the Prophet Elijah, gathered to live lives of prayer, silence, and devotion to God. They dedicated a chapel to the Blessed Virgin Mary, placing themselves under her protection and seeking to imitate her example of faith.

For Carmelites, Mary is much more than a patron saint. She is the perfect disciple of Christ, the woman who listened attentively to God's Word, welcomed it into her heart, and faithfully lived it every day of her life. She teaches us what it means to follow Jesus completely. Her life was not free from challenges and suffering, yet she remained steadfast because her trust was firmly rooted in God.

The title "Our Lady of Mount Carmel" reminds us that Mary walks with us on our spiritual journey. She accompanies us as a loving mother, encouraging us to remain faithful in prayer, hopeful in trials, and generous in love. Through her example, we learn that true greatness is found not in power or recognition, but in humble obedience to God's will.

One of the most recognized signs of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel is the Brown Scapular. More than an object of devotion, it is a reminder of our commitment to live a Christian life inspired by Mary's virtues. It calls us to imitate her faith, humility, and openness to God's grace.

Mary's greatness comes from her willingness to say "yes" to God. We, too, can I imitate her openness and trust in God's plan today listening to God’s word, trusting in his plans, and walking always closer to Jesus.
