The spiritual journey is personal, but it need not be solitary.
Spiritual direction offers a confidential and contemplative space in which you can speak about your life, prayer, faith and experience with someone trained to listen and accompany you.
At the Carmelite Centre, spiritual direction is offered within the Carmelite tradition of prayer, contemplation, service and hospitality. It invites us to seek God in silence, in relationship and in the ordinary circumstances of life.
A spiritual director does not direct your life or provide ready-made answers. Rather, they listen with you—helping you become more attentive to the presence and movement of God, recognise what is life-giving, and discern how you may be invited to respond.
When can spiritual direction be helpful?
Spiritual direction may be helpful when you:
-
desire a deeper spiritual or prayer life;
-
are discerning a decision, transition or new direction;
-
feel spiritually unsettled, uncertain or disconnected;
-
are living through grief, change or difficult circumstances;
-
want to explore where God may be present in everyday life; or
-
would value regular accompaniment on your spiritual journey.
You do not need to arrive with a particular problem or a clear understanding of where your journey is leading. A willingness to speak honestly, listen deeply and remain open to what unfolds is enough.
